Canal Insurance Company to move to former Bank of America building in downtown Greenville

Canal Insurance Company announced plans to expand and relocate its operations with a new headquarters in downtown Greenville.

Founded in 1939, the 82-year-old company headquartered at 400 East Stone Avenue in Greenville will move to 101 N. Main Street in the former Bank of America Building. The move, slated for mid-2022, aims to bolster the company’s growth plans.

The move also includes exclusive signage rights to the building, with Canal taking over as the main tenant of ONE City Plaza, occupying five floors and over a third of the building.

Canal President and CEO Paul Brocklebank said the move to the 65,000 square feet of office space comes as the company has shifted its philosophy over the past decade to operate “more like a start-up than an eight-decade-old organization,” adding that the company is looking for “a whole new caliber of employee” to move the business forward in the decades to come.

“As a family business, we have viewed Greenville as our home for over 80 years and share a keen appreciation for the benefits of expanding operations and recruiting employees in such a dynamic city and business environment.” , said Brocklebank.

Canal provides insurance products and services, including motor vehicle liability, road freight, physical damage, general trucker liability coverage, and risk management services. The company has operated its head office from its current location on Stone Avenue for 29 years.

Colliers’ office brokerage team members Brantley Anderson, Taylor Allen and Bailey Tollison represented Canal in the company’s relocation efforts.

Blaine Hart, Shelby Dodson and Charles Gouch of CBRE represented the owner, RealOp Investments.

LCK will manage the development of the new Canal space. LCK’s Scott Rush and Doug Vincent will manage the project from the start until the canal is occupied.
